Halloween can be a lot of fun, but it can also be a lot of work. Every year, we have to come up with new costumes and new decorations that will wow our neighbors. Sometimes we can rack our brains for months, and nothing will seem quite right for costumes for ourselves or our children. Luckily, there’s help for you! Take a look at some of these ideas, and before you now it you’ll have the perfect costume in which to have a great Halloween!

Your child is probably tired of having the same costume every year; perhaps they want to be something different than the old favorites of Superman or Wonder Woman. This Halloween, go with something different but still classic. Choose a tiger or bear costume. Not only are these outfits good on their own, but there’s a lot you can do to improve upon them. Depending on your child’s personality, you can make them creepy or not creepy, just follow these steps.

Say you want their costume to be adorable, not scary. Add a cute stuffed animal to their candy bucket, and match the toy to their costume so they have a smaller version of themselves. For example, if your child is dressed as a lion, put one of the many available stuffed lions on their candy bucket. Or maybe they want to have a creepier costume for Halloween. You can take that same lion idea and make it scarier. Transform the lion into a dangerous predator. Add some scars to the fur. You could also add vampire teeth to make that hungry, fanged grin. Then, instead of a friend on the bucket, attach a prey animal. For example, you could get a small stuffed giraffe, smudged with “blood,” so that it looks like the lion just recently took done some prey.

That’s not the only way you could use a stuffed animal in a costume. Say you want to dress up as Dorothy this Halloween. No Dorothy costume would be complete without her faithful pal Toto. Add a little basket and a plush dog, and there you go! Or to be a true witch, make sure you have the traditional pet. Get a plush black cat and your costume will be complete!

If you want to be a traditional Disney Princess, you could also use stuffed animals to make yourself look surrounded by forest creatures. Just get either a small basket or some other bag, and fill it with stuffed rabbits, plush raccoons, and stuffed squirrels. Or be a realistic Tarzan with a big stuffed monkey as a companion. Wrap it around your neck for ease to carry and you’ll be ready to swing through the vines. And remember, one of the best parts of using stuffed animals is that you get to keep it even when Halloween is done!

These are just a couple new concepts you can use to get your creativity moving again. Remember, the addition of one (or several) plush stuffed toys can do a lot towards making your costume for Halloween fun and spooky! Have a happy Halloween!
